Hurricane Irene's Got Nothing On Us!

Like the hurricane making its way toward the North Carolina Coast, we've got lots of energy in our choir, but we need to make a course change if we are going to avoid disaster.

The weekend originally scheduled for the first onstage rehearsals (Oct 8-9) is in direct conflict with UA Football and County Schools' Fall Break.  Previously, we thought no one was going out of town for that break.  This past week, we have found that about 1/3 of the choir will not be here Oct 8-11.

Therefore, tear up your calendars.  I will link to a new one in a moment.  Here are the important changes:
Oct 9: rehearsal as usual for the kids that are in town at 5PM
Oct. 10: No rehearsal
Oct. 11: No rehearsal
Oct 12:  Regular rehearsal at 5:30
Oct. 16: Rehearsal at 5PM Onstage in Fellowship Hall
Oct. 17:  Full run-through onstage 5:30-7
Oct. 18: Dress rehearsal 5:30-7
Oct. 19: Performance: Be in choir room dressed and snacked at 5:45; Performance 6:30;     Refreshments following

RANDOM FACTS ABOUT COMPOSERS

Bach had 21 children.
Beethoven once said, "I do love a tree better than a man."  He also forgot about grooming his hair and changing his clothes, so his friends would sneak him clean clothes and he never noticed they were different or cleaner than what he'd had on the day before.

Ha! We're Back!

We had a great practice yesterday and almost got through all the music.  We missed those of you that couldn't make it, but we know it was last minute.  Please invite friends next week!

SCRAMBLE!!!

Last spring, we were going to do Amazing Grace Race in June, and then a Thanksgiving musical. Well, we worked so on the Race that we decided NOT to scrap it.  We are doing it Wednesday, October 12.  This means we have 7 weeks of practice and then we do it!  Fear not; we will begin Sunday afternoon practices in September.
Here's the calendar link:
Kids' Choir Calendar Aug-Oct

After our October performance, we will be doing a short pre-Christmas show with some of the same songs and characters as "'Tis the Season," but some new ones!  That show will probably be right before Thanksgiving, but it has to go before the whole Church Staff at the next meeting.

Please call or write Bailey Standifer and comfort her this week since she lost a grandaddy.  All our choir members are good friends and let's just shower her with FLUM love!!!!  There's no need to be afraid if you don't know what to say or do.  A simple "I'm sorry" and/or a hug is plenty.

I will post pics of last night's practice after work today.  For those of you that didn't hear, Miss Erin's having a girl!!!!!

And Miss Karla won the canned drink for guessing that the person in last week's sheep video was Irish.  Incidentally, he was visiting The Netherlands, so that's what was on the title.

QUIZ OF THE WEEK:
How many quarter notes equal a whole note?  E-mail me at lharaway@charter.net or get someone to do it for you.  I will put all the people's names who had correct answers in a hat and get Miss Karla to pull one out at choir practice Wednesday.  The winner will get a little prize!

Miss Lin will be out of town this Wednesday because of work.  I will miss you guys, but I will still blog at night when I'm not in class learning how to do my job better.

Welcome to The Amazing Grace Race - Again!

Wow, you guys!

How FUN it was to see everyone back at church again after a full summer!  We are getting started back with choir and Miss Erin THIS WEDNESDAY at 530PM.  All kids in K-5 are invited to the party!  Parents or responsible adults need to sign them in as per Safe Sanctuary.  Then adults can sit down for a moment to fill out paper forms or send me an e-mail with the info in it. The kids will sing through the music while parents do that. Calendars will be handed out for rehearsals and performances.  The musical is October 12, so we will hit the floor running!

Then the adults can go on to classes.  We will feed the kids and let them PLAY.  It might be a good idea to see if you can get the homework done before choir in case they are really tired after church.

Remember to let them wear blue or pink somewhere on their body to guess if the Flowers' baby will be a boy or a girl.  We will find out at dessert time!

CDs will be available for those whose music got lost in the storm/summer/floorboard/sofa/dog's stomach.

See you all Wednesday night at 5:30!!!!

And for a little funny, here is a video of a sneezing sheep!  And if you can tell me what nationality the person is talking on the video, I will buy you a canned drink Wednesday night!
Scripture: Ezekiel 34:30-31
In a nutshell: Sheep aren't bright and they do stuff they shouldn't, so they need a shepherd to guide them.  We are like sheep and God gave us Jesus and the Holy Spirit to guide us.  We are His people, so we will ALWAYS have a leader.
