We are almost finished giving out the singing parts, but you have to be at practice to get a part! We read through most of the songs and began to re-memorize them.
We also talked about the importance of singing at home. This homework is not just to "get you into the habit." If you don't sing the songs at home 10-15 minutes a day, they won't sink in. Then when you get in front of an audience YOUR MIND WILL GO BLANK. We don't have the leisure of lots of time that we had last year.
Another trick is to use your book we gave you (Yes, everyone got one. Some got one this spring and another this fall.). While you are listening and singing, read along in the book. This will give your brain visual as well as auditory cues. It also helps to sing in front of a mirror.
Here's a photo of a girl singing in front of a mirror. PS: You don't need a mic.
Yes, your family may make fun. Get over it and tell them you are honing your craft. This is what professional singers and actors do. It's not being selfish and stuck-up. God gave you a gift and you want to use it to its best. Besides, it's only 10 minutes. You can give up one game of Angry Birds or Mario Cart, can't you? Or whatever the latest game is. I don't know. My kids aren't kids.
Anyway...
I've also pretty much got the choreography down for the first song. We'll be working on that beginning Sunday, Sept 11 at 5:00PM. It will be a great, positive way to end a somber day of remembrance for the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks. Kids need to end their day with something positive. I encourage you to bring them on our first Sunday practice.
Check the sidebars for more fun facts about dead composers and the weekly funny animal video! About the Grandparents' Day gifts, the thing I like best is the homemade crafts. But if I were a grandparent, you could do that or give me another one of those awesome cakes.
See you all Wednesday at 5:30!
